A Making of a Nation

There is a difference between just donating materials for the houses and taking part in the experience of building.
NOVEMBER 20-21, 2010
There is no monetary assistance, there are minor sacrifices required to survive.
The only benefit; The priceless experience of seeing the face of a happy person

This is not a social activity project; this is not a civic organization movement.  This
An encounter.
There was a time during our extended business tour stay in Manila that I met up with a friend and he asked me the reason why I was volunteering for Gawad Kalinga.  He asked why I was doing something and yet not getting anything in return.  I was frustrated with myself because I did not answer back, now this is the time I will answer him and I want every single person who reads this to know why.
As a child I know I am blessed.  I know I am blessed with a loving family, a shelter to seek refuge in when times of a natural crisis, friends who were always there for me to play and have fun with.  I know I have been given all these graces and yet I wanted more.  I also knew for a fact that there are other people who are less fortunate.  There are those who do not have shelter to crawl in during light rain showers.  I knew all these, I have heard their cries, but I didn’t listen.  I entered into a community where love of God grows in every heart and in every single thing that they do.  I fell in love with the community, I fell inlove with the people and I fell in love with the things that they did for each other.  This community exposed me to Gawad Kalinga.  My views of Gawad Kalinga before was a mere organization which built houses for the poor.  I participated in the builds with my parents and the rest of my school friends.  Then the more I came in touch with the people I worked with the more intense my love grew for Gawad Kalinga.
I discovered that Gawad Kalinga is Nation Building.  How is it able to build a nation? I was asked, I answered; it is simply about giving care.  Once we start to give care then we start to affect the people around us and it becomes a non-stop chain towards the goal of hope and change.  One simple gesture can be made into something big.  With this care we become united, we become united towards one goal with this goal we are able to build a united nation full of love, hope and pride.
In Gawad Kalinga, everything is there, people who will love you and a society that is about giving care and a business enterprise that is not based on increasing profit but profit sustainability.

Anong Taya mo sa Pilipinas? Ano ang taya mo sa bayan?
Less for Me, More for Others, Enough for Everybody
