CSI SCUBASURERO 2019
Being a member of a JCI chapter that loves to protect life below water was what attracted me to joining JCI Cebu Sinulog chapter in Cebu. I have been an advocate of the MDG since I started volunteering for the cause and now I found a JCI chapter that has the same values and visions as I do.
In 2003, JCI Cebu Sinulog had this hobby of doing SCUBASURERO with long time and seasoned divers. This was initially to answer the call of debris below water from highly commercialized areas in Cebu, the island of Mactan particularly in Lapu Lapu City.
Fast forward to 2019, as a member of 7 years and counting, the chapter members and I thought that it is time to broaden the scope of Scubasurero for this summer and make this into a campaign that is relevant to global warming. This time, it is getting the businesses around the island involved and increasing the volunteer count that will not limit to only scuba divers. This year, we thought to encourage young active citizens to gather even with their snorkling gear and come and collect plastic waste on the sea beds.
In April 02, 2019, we partnered with the Ateneo Graduate School of Business to provide us a venue where we can converge our media and press partners to give the campaign a voice. With this, a lot of our media partners and establishment partners agreed to support the cause by donating in cash and in kind. One of the major contributors was Greenovate and Boyla Diving Resort.
On April 21, 2019, we will commence the first CSI Scubasurero with a coastal cleanup, because we are inspired to be one big supporter of the cause to protect the life below water
